Philippe Senderos
Senderos, a Rossoneri. No, it's not a joke.

When Mikael Silvestre was transferred to the Gunners, I thought that it was only a move to bring more experience to Arsenal's backline who lacked a consistent veteran presence. Now, it seems like this transfer is having a lot more consequences on defenders than previously imagined.

After Armand Traore got transferred to Portsmouth on loan (and playing well on his debut against Manchester United), it's now Philippe Senderos' turn to pack his bags and get loaned to Serie A club AC Milan. Here is Wenger's explanation of the move (from Arsenal.com):

"The thinking is that he does not get games here and [this way he] gets top-level games somewhere. We have Kolo, Gallas, Djourou, Song and now Silvestre. We have congestion in there and we want him to play without losing him.”

The funny thing is, Silvestre won't be playing until September 13 since he seems to have a problem with his thigh and is injury-prone. So who do you call when your back-up gets injured? As for Senderos, he's going to a club where defensive giants Nesta and Maldini along with Kaladze all have priority over him. Unless there is a tight schedule or an injury, I don't see how he will get to play. Of course, he could come on as a substitute but Milan's offense was average during the pre-season, and Kaka is still having trouble with his knee. So right now, all Milan have going for them is their defense, I don't see how a liability like Senderos could crack the line-up in such conditions (unless it's for the reasons I stated before). But hey, let's look at the bright side, Arsenal has one less average defender to worry about.

Some more good news. Fabregas will be fit for today's Champions League qualifyer against FC Twente. However, he's not fit enough to be on the starting line-up. We'll see how that goes. That's good news for the Gunners' league season though – with Fabregas back, maybe – just maybe – they'll stop their fall in the standings.
