Van Gaal Sacked!

April 10th 2011 15:05

Sooner or later, his time at Bayern had to be concluded due to the despicable season Bayern had! Bayern were not up to their level given the quality they have! And especially they were not anywhere near to their performance compared to last season where this same manager managed them! He was supposed to leave the club at the end of the season but his departure has now been brought forward, with the club fourth in the Bundesliga and struggling to ensure qualification for next season's Champions League, and this season, they are already out of the Champions League! Bayern drew their latest match against Nurnberg 1-1, due to which they remain glued to the fourth position!
And Since the final of the Champions League will be held at the Allianz Arena next year, failure to even qualify for the competition would be a severe disappointment for Bayern, who will now end the season without a single trophy.
Jonker, who was Van Gaal's right-hand man, has been placed in charge for those five games and after this season Jupp Heynckes will succeed him as the club's new permanent boss.

Klose, a wanted man!

March 30th 2011 04:36

Klose's contract is coming to an end at Bayern this summer. An yet this news has gained much popularity across the Europe as many clubs are interested to sign him. Especially, Spurs, Juventus and Benfica. He is also alleged to have attracted domestic interest from Borussia Dortmund and Bochum, but is said to prefer a move to the continent. At Bayern he remains second-choice striker behind Mario Gomez, who leads the Bundesliga in goals scored, but ironically serves as back-up to Klose on the international stage.

Champions League (16th March REVIEW)

March 16th 2011 13:13
INTER VS BAYERN agg 3-3 (INTER win on away goals)

1st Leg defeated Inter stunned German strugglers as they won the game by 3-2! Their precious two away goals gave them the pass to go to next round! It was expected as Bayern were struggling in their domestic league as well due to their poor form. Late goal from Goran Pandev turned the game around burned any expectations left for the German former champions for any silverware this season! Goals from Mario Gomez and Thomas Muller, following mistakes by goalkeeper Julio Cesar and Lucio, had the hosts in control after Samuel Eto'o had grabbed an early opener - and they should have been far out of sight.
The Dutchman was now finding space around the Bayern box and had a goalbound shot blocked by Pandev.
Bayern were getting chances on the break, but not a telling touch to any of Ribery's countless crosses.

Man Utd 2-1 Marseille (2-1 on agg.)

Two goals from Javier Hernandez were enough to give Manchester United a 2-1 win over Marseille at Old Trafford. And certainly Man Utd passed to next round and it did not came as a big surprise seeing Man Utd dumping Marseille out of the competition! Javier Hernandez stole the show and unexpectedly surprised Sir Alex by scoring the brace! An own goal by Wes Brown in the 82nd minute ensured a nervous finish but United were not breached again by Marseille and secured their passage That set up a nerve-shredding final few minutes but United held firm to reach the last eight.

Well folks, it's that time of the year again where teams gear up for the final stretch of their domestic season while also fighting for European glory. With the African cup of Nations taking place in a World Cup year, fixtures around Europe suffered massive changes in order to accommodate all teams. As a result, I've been pretty much unable to follow league games as I did in the beginning of the season. But the Champions League is back, still sticking to the Tuesday/Wednesday combo, so that should be enough for now.

This week, we had the first half of the round of 16's first leg with 8 teams in action which delivered enough drama to make our anticipation of the second half even more palatable. Out of the four games, I only watched two (Manchester United – AC Milan and Arsenal – Porto). Here are my thoughts along with some video highlights

Bundesliga Week 12 Results

November 10th 2009 04:06
The air is getting thick with tension at Bayern as Van Gaal's men dropped another game, falling out of the top five in the process. Bayer Leverkusen is now six points ahead of the Bavarian who can't seem to win without Ribery/Robben in the line-up. I can't seem to get the highlights videos to work anymore so we'll have to do without them for a couple of weeks.
