March 17th 2011 04:28
FIXTURE RESULTS:
Real Madrid 3-0 Lyon (4-1 on agg)
Chelsea 0-0 Cop'hagen (2-0 on agg)
Real Madrid 3-0 Lyon
Madrid showed a magnificent performance after they dumped Lyon out of the Champions League by defeating them 3-0 at Bernebau! This win helped Madrid to progress to the next round for the first time in six years! Marcelo, Karim Benzema and Angel Di Maria struck the goals. The home side were unable to continue that early dominance though, and Lyon gradually started to enjoy more possession and they gave Madrid a scare in the 21st minutes. Lyon now need to struggle hard and get the first position in Ligue 1 for next years Champions League, mean while, Madrid are step closer for their 10th European Cup!
Chelsea 0-0 Cop'hagen
Chelsea were unable to defeat Copahagen at Stamfor Bridge but this draw was enough for them to progress to the next round as they already bagged two away goals in the first leg! How Fernando Torres would have loved to have started up front in what appeared an ideal game in which to end his goal drought, but manager Carlo Ancelotti decided it was better for the Spaniard to play a substitute role only ahead of Sunday's Barclays Premier League clash with Manchester City. Although they have poor form in BPL, but here they showed good performance and who knows, they might go on to win their first UEFA Champions League trophy!
