EPL Week 3: Chelsea Defeat Fulham 2-0
August 24th 2009 03:28
For their third consecutive win, Chelsea improved on their record by not conceding the goal and also keeping a clean sheet – two things the Blues could not do in their two previous games.
After a warning shot by Clint Dempsey in the first minute of the game, Chelsea took over for the rest of the 90 minutes. The first goal came in the 38th minute when Anelka sent his teammate through to goal with a beautiful pass. Some might say that Drogba was offside on the play but to me, it was a 50-50 decision – some refs might have called it, some not. This one didn't, as a result Chelsea opened the scoring for the first time in this still-early season.
Drogba returned the favor to Anelka in the second half with a superb through-ball timed perfectly into Anelka's run. Needless to say, with those two conceded goals, I was glad that Schwarzer wasn't the starting goalie in my fantasy team this week.
Once again, I thought Lampard was pretty invisible. It seems like Ballack completely overshadows the English midfielder. The commentators were saying that he – talking about Lampard - was doing all the little things right even though he hadn't scored. Funny how he gets substituted but Ballack doesn't.
Anyways, this recap is pretty short. Nothing much happened in the game. To make up for the shortness of this post, here is a full highlights video instead of just the goals. Enjoy below.
Chelsea line-up: Petr Cech; Jose Bosingwa (Sam Hutchinson, 86th), Ricardo Carvalho, John Terry, Ashley Cole; Michael Ballack, John Obi Mikel, Frank Lampard (Deco, 80th), Florent Malouda; Nicolas Anelka, Didier Drogba.
