Trezeguet's Goal Gives Juventus 1-0 Win Against Arsenal
August 5th 2008 02:09
Saturday's match between Juventus and Arsenal was a confrontation between experience and youth. Indeed, manager Claudio Ranieri didn't hesitate to put his first team on the field including Buffon, Nedved, Mellberg, Chiellini, Iaquinta, and Trezeguet. Arsène Wenger, on the other hand, settled for a mix of veterans and reserves, giving Senderos his first start of the pre-season, starting Vela alongside Bendtner, and keeping promising winger Jack Wilshere on the starting eleven.
Not a lot happened during this game. Wilshere and Ramsey were the only players to test Buffon in the first half while French striker scored twice in the span of three minutes. Both goals were offside, yet the second one was allowed since the linesman missed the infraction. Arsenal never came back from that deficit as Juventus' backline stood tall. Bendtner and Adebayor's attempts on goal in the final fifteen minutes didn't bother Buffon and the scoreline stayed the same.
Arsenal's line-up: Lukasz Fabianski; Phillip Senderos (William Gallas, h-t), Justin Hoyte (Bacary Sagna, 60th), Johan Djourou, Emmanuel Eboue (Samir Nasri, 60th); Kieran Gibbs, Denilson, Aaron Ramsey (Abou Diaby, h-t), Jack Wilshere (Theo Walcott, 60th); Carlos Vela (Emmanuel Adebayor, 60th), Nicklas Bendtner.
