La Liga Week 4: Gudjohnsen Saves Barcelona, Madrid Thrashes Sporting Gijon
September 27th 2008 04:04
Barcelona – Real Betis: 3-2
Two goals from striker Eto'o in the span of five minutes had Barcelona cruising into a comfortable lead at the end of the first half. Both goals were set up by Messi who's getting better and better. Unfortunately, Barca lost that lead around the hour-mark when an indirect free-kick somehow found its way through the four-man wall at the 58th minute, then a subtle chip to second post beat Valdes for the second time at the 66th minute. Guardiola wasn't going to be satisfied with the draw however, and quickly put Gudjohnsen, Busquets, and Bojan on the field. Less than ten minutes after his entrance, the Icelandic midfielder put his team in front by finishing a cross to the far post. Bojan would also get a chance a couple of minutes later, but he was denied by the keeper.
So, with Gudjohnsen scoring the goal winner, he might have found himself back as a regular on the team, not quite a starter just yet obviously, but he's looking better than Henry right now. That must be worth something. I won't be surprised if Henry wants out. Eto'o is in great shape right now, and if the French striker keeps whining about playing out of position, he won't be playing at all.
Real Madrid – Sporting Gijon: 7-1
I didn't watch this game, but any match with more than four goals deserves to be highlighted, so check out the video below for all the action. There are some real beauties on there.
