La Liga Week 3: Spanish Giants, Real Madrid & Barcelona, Back On Track
September 22nd 2008 20:58
It's been a tough start for Spanish football's two titans, but this week's convincing victories show that they might over this rough patch.
Racing de Santander – Real Madrid: 0-2
After a wild game last week in which there were six goals in the first half alone (Madrid won the match 4-3), the Meringues offered a more sobered performance on Sunday to defeat Santander 2-0. Cannavaro's return in the center of defense helped a lot as the veteran center-back was very vocal in organizing his teammates at the back.
Sporting de Gijon – Barcelona: 1-6
Barcelona have had the worst start of the two teams. Like Madrid, their first match was a loss against promoted club Numancia. But unlike their rival who won their second match, the Blaugrana could only get a draw on their second week thanks to a penalty. This week, they seem to have found their scoring touch by pounding Sporting 6-1 including a double from Messi.
